Carmelo Anthony (otherwise known by his nickname “Melo”) is a professional basketball player for the New York Knicks of the NBA. He has become one of the most popular players in the league, and was once named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA East Regional. He has also been named to the All-NBA team 6 times and to the All-Star team 6 times. He was initially drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the 3rd pick in 2003. On 10th July 2010, Anthony married La La at Cipriani’s in New York City. The couple had been engaged since 2004, and was blessed with a baby boy named Kiyan Carmelo, born on March 7, 2007. The 30-year-old basketball player has also been involved in different charity works including “The Carmelo Antony Youth Development Center”, and the “Living Classrooms Foundation”. He has made massive donations to these charities to promote job-training, hands-on-education and community service programs for more than 36,000 children, youth and young adults living in the east Baltimore community.

Anthony also made a donation of $3 million to fund the construction of a basketball practice facility in Syracuse University, his alma mater. His donation is considered as one of the largest donations made by an individual to the university, and also one of the largest donation made by a current professional athlete to the institution they attended. In 2006, he was ranked 8th on the list of “The Giving Back 30 List of Largest Charitable Donations by Celebrities”.
