Born Trevor Tahiem Smith, Jr. on the 20th day of May, 1972, Busta Rhymes is an American rapper, producer, songwriter and actor with a net worth of $65 million. His wealth comes from the more than 10 million copies of albums he has sold in the United States alone.
Busta bust into the scene during the late 1980s featuring alongside a rap group called Leaders of the New School. The group did not realize much success and they eventually fell apart. Busta did proceed with his musical desire and featured as a guest artist on tracks by Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men and with a rap band known as A Tribe Called Quest. In 1995, he released his debut album called The Coming.
Busta Rhymes went on to become one of the most successful rap artists, releasing nine albums since his debut album, with his 9th, Year of the Dragon, released in 2012. His fast and highly intricate style of rapping that incorporates lyrics characterized by use of half rhymes and internal rhymes is what made his music more interesting. His music won him many awards and earned him several nominations that included a Grammy Awards nominee. According to statistics released by About.com, Busta Rhymes is ranked among the top 50 greatest MCs ever between 1987 and 2007.
Other than music, Busta Rhymes has also appeared on 10 feature films including Breaking Point, Finding Forrester, Narc and Shaft. This year, the IRS revealed that Busta has a debt of $789, 577 in unpaid taxes. As it stands, no statement has come from Busta’s side and it’s still unknown whether this is a small error or sort of a huge financial problem.
