Bidzina Ivanishvili is the richest man in Georgia and has a net worth of $6.4 billion. He is a politician (10th prime minister of Georgia) and businessman by profession and it is estimated that his wealth is equal to ½ of the GDP of his country, Georgia. He is the co-founder of Rossiysky Kredit, a holding firm and acquired the bulk of his wealth by purchasing small-scale metal mining companies and then selling them to other parties at higher prices thereby making a good profit in the process.
He is also into real estate development and has a major stake in Hotel Lux and Doctor Stoletov which is a chain of Russian drug stores. He always had a great political inclination and this came into the forefront in April, 2012 when he made his intentions clear to challenge the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. With this objective in mind, he created a new political party and named it Georgian Dream. However, the party is now under legal investigation as there are allegations that the party was indulged in vote buying.
Bidzina was born in Chorvila and he graduated from Tbilsi State University with engineering and economics degrees. He then went on to study further and earned his PhD from Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. He has an avid interest in art collection and he has purchased works by Pablo Picasso & Peter Doig at various auctions. He is married and has four children.
