From the latest figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average hourly wage (for all occupations) is $22.33 per hour while the average monthly wage is $3,870 implying that the average annual salary in America is $46,440 per year.
Having said that, the highest paying occupations are the most technical ones; they include engineering, architecture, legal, management and information technology among others. In fact, IT research scientists make over twice the annual average raking in approximately $109,000 every year. This notwithstanding, on the lower end of the spectrum lie maintenance, forestry, food preparation and serving, farming and fishing among others; some of these professionals make as little as $21,000 a year.
The Bureau has also shown that the private sector employs more than 90% of America’s workforce. So, if you are looking to be among the highest paid professionals then make sure you are in management or are a registered nurse; these two occupations are the highest paid among the top 10 professions in the US. And if you are really bent on getting rich very fast, then working in a clothing or department store, waiting tables or being a gas station attendant are not the thing for you; unfortunately, these professions are among the lowest paid in the US.
