Born in the former Slovak Republic, Andrej Babis has a citizenship in the Czech Republic. His father was a diplomat and Babis began his early career as a trader with Petrimex. Before long, he started to direct the Petrimex trade group that produced fertilizer. By 1995, he started his own holding company that specialized in agricultural and chemical products. Named Agrofert, it quickly grew across Eastern Europe.
Through Agrofert, Andrej Babis own over 230 businesses. In the Czech Republic, the holding group possesses the majority of agricultural land. Due to this, his business is in control of many of the area's industries like wood processing and health care. Outside of business, Andrej Babis is active in political circles. He began a new political party and is working to end corruption in the Czech Republic.
In 2011, the ANO was officially created. Known as the Action of Dissatisfied Citizens in 2011, it seeks to combat corruption and other political issues. In 2013, his party managed to gain a total of 47 out of 200 seats within the Czech legislature. Since the new coalition government was formed, Andrej Babis has been chosen as the minister of finance for the Czech Republic. He is divorced, but his marriage resulted in two children.
