Aloys Wobben, known as ‘Mr Wind’, is a German entrepreneur who has a net worth of $3 billion. He is the founder of the wind turbine manufacturer, Enercon, in 1984 and has given huge efforts in the development of the company to make it the 5th largest company in the sector. Interestingly the company does not sell its turbines in the US and never reveal its financial figures.
Born in 1952, Aloys was initially trained in an electrical engineering company and he had an avid interest in exploring the different elements of nature like wind and water. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Braunschweig. He founded Enercon in 1984 and since then he has worked for the company in the capacity of its owner and manager. It controls almost 60% of the market in Germany and the estimated revenues in 2012 were $5.34 billion.
In the later half of 2012 Aloys transferred his 100% stake in Enercon to a family trust. The trust is now known as the Aloys Wobben Foundation. In fact, he retired from business soon after citing deteriorating health conditions. Simon-Hermann Wobben, his nephew, is now a member of the board in the company. He is now in his sixties and lives in Aurich.
