The Slaight Family is one of the most renowned families in Canada. Due to its incredible wealth that is estimated to be $2.0 billion, the family is ranked as one of the wealthiest families in the country. This family owes its fortune and fame to one Allan Slaight, a Canadian media magnate who ventured into radio in the late 1940s.
Slaight started off as an On-air reporter with CHAB in Moose, Jaw, and in 1965 he became the General Manager of CHUM Radio in Toronto. A couple of years later, he became a force to be reckoned with in the media industry after he purchased a number of radio stations in Montreal and in Toronto. Soon after, he merged with IWC Communications and also bought Standard Broadcasting Corporation.

Besides being a highly successful businessman, this 82-year old media tycoon is also an avid philanthropist. In January 2012, he announced a CAD$50 million pledge to the Princess Margaret Foundation. He and his wife, Emmanuelle Gattuso, also run The Slaight Family Center for Youth in Transition, which focuses on helping mentally challenged youths.
